Nadia Nadim is a fine example of empowerment among women through education. Born in Afghanistan, she became a soccer player and a doctor in Denmark. Nadia Nadim's remarkable story began in Afghanistan, where she was forced to flee to a refugee camp in Denmark, then to a future as an elite soccer player and now to become a medical doctor. She is also the UNESCO Defender of Girls' and Women's Education. Having lived in a country where it was not permitted for women to venture out of the home without the company of a male relative, Nadia Nadim fought against adversity and discrimination to achieve her dreams. Her experience of losing her freedom under the Taliban government and surviving poverty in a refugee camp in Denmark fueled her enormous ambition to succeed.
